Word Press Developer

The Role

Portland is looking for a junior / mid-range web developer (around 2-3 years’ experience) to work on a range of web development projects for clients across the business – from splash pages and campaign hubs, to content portals and corporate sites.

The developer will be part of Portland’s Content & Brand team, working closely with our in-house graphic designers, as well as the agency’s in-house digital specialists.

Across Portland – both in the UK, and our international offices – our Content & Brand team create collateral (in print, online, and through events) to bring messages to life and power great campaigns.

Key Responsibilities

We’re looking for someone who can take responsibility for our web build projects, from start-to-finish – including:

  • Planning and project management: working with account teams to develop concepts and functionality; liaising with clients to understand their requirements; and managing timelines, workflow and resources.
  • Coding and maintenance: building, managing and updating sites; performing maintenance as required; and monitoring web server and technical performance.
  • Marketing and development: developing products and solutions; contributing to proposals; and supporting digital elements of Portland’s own marketing.

The majority of our sites are built in WordPress – so extensive experience of coding themes, with strong HTML5, CSS3, Javascript and SQL skills, is crucial. The candidate should have the ability to solve problems by writing their own functionality in the code and should not resort to downloading a plugin.

Candidates should also have extensive experience in building mobile-responsive sites.

The developer will also be responsible for liaising with our hosting provider and associated tasks such as configuring domain registrations and changing DNS records.

Desirable (but not required) knowledge of AngularJS, LESS or SASS
