Senior Account Manager


We are looking for a senior account manager with strong agency experience to join our fast growing team in Portland’s Middle East office, in Doha, Qatar.

You will:

  • Function as the key project manager on the account, managing the workload of a global account team
  • Provide advice on policy and media issues with oversight for the development of research briefs
  • Lead on the development of international media and political engagement strategies, taking full responsibility for tactical implementation of client activity
  • Be a skilled political operator that can hold the room with senior officials and c-suite contacts and are adept at cultivating and maintaining relationships with journalists
  • Have impeccable presentation and excellent people management skills
  • Have line management responsibility for several staff
  • Contribute to new business, helping to identify and cultivate prospects, and to develop and contribute to pitches and proposals

Key Responsibilities

  • Helping manage Portland’s regional accounts, including full oversight of resources and staffing
  • Acting as a day-to-day contact for clients
  • Line management of several staff
  • Executing media relations activities
  • Counselling international clients on media relations issues
  • Overseeing detailed media and policy research and analysis to inform our advice to clients
  • Executing detailed written assignments, including drafting new business proposals and presentations
  • Drafting advice memos for clients on strategic and tactical activity
  • Overseeing detailed media and policy research and analysis to inform our advice to clients
  • Tracking complex international policy issues and events
  • Managing political and media engagement programmes
  • Overseeing the organisation of events
  • Playing a key role supporting Portland Middle East’s new business development
  • Participating in pitches
  • Building relationships with target clients

Person Specification

  • Be an excellent project manager, with the ability to manage your own workload
  • Have the ability to conduct comprehensive analysis of information to tight deadlines ensuring accuracy and relevance
  • Have the ability to communicate confidently with Portland staff, clients and other stakeholders
  • Be logical, quick and flexible in the appraisal of problems
  • Have the ability to present findings for publication clearly and accurately
  • Team working and projects
  • Be able to work with and communicate effectively with others across the agency
  • Be able to take direction and report progress on your work with others
  • Be able to manage projects independently, with limited management direction, as required

Qualifications and Skills

    • Have a degree, with a minimum classification of 2:1
    • Have extensive senior level communications experience gained in an agency setting
    • Have a strong working knowledge of the international media landscape
  • Arabic language skills would be highly regarded
