Intern – Engagement (Paid)

  • This role is within Portland’s Engagement team. The practice focuses on providing integrated communication solutions to client issues.
  • The Engagement team work on employee engagement and internal communications across all sectors of clients.

Key Responsibilities’ and stakeholder engagement

  • To maintain knowledge of employee engagement trends – including social media, trends, policies and issues and provide strategic advice on these;
  • Have a good feel for communications work, with experience of generating compelling content and devising communication strategies;
  • To assist in the delivery of a programme in support of the client development team’s scheme development objectives;
  • To assist in the production of communications materials, press releases, newsletters, boards, website copy, blogs, speeches, and video development;
  • Assist in preparing concise and timely reports from meetings relevant to clients as directed by team members;
  • Preparing new business distribution lists for marketing outreach;
  • Researching and managing forward calendars of key events relevant to designated clients;
  • The role will include digital research; social media analysis; content planning; online influencer mapping and creative input;

  • Be organised with the ability to manage your own workload;
  • Have the ability to work to deadlines and conduct accurate, relevant, comprehensive analysis of information
  • Have the ability to communicate confidently with Portland staff, clients and other stakeholders.

  • You must:
  • Be logical, quick and flexible in the appraisal of problems;
  • Be a self-starter and entrepreneurial in character;
  • Have the ability to present findings for publication clearly and accurately to a range of audiences; and
  • Be proficient in the use of database and Internet tools; spreadsheets, Power Point and word processing.

Team working and projects

  • You must:
  • Be able to work with and communicate effectively with others across the agency;
  • Be able to take direction and report progress on your work with others;
  • Be able to manage projects independently, with limited management direction, as required;
  • Be confident in engaging directly with the public.

Qualifications and skills:

  • You must:
  • You must have a Degree (with a minimum of a 2:1). This is likely to be in a research-oriented social science or arts, e.g. English, history, politics, economics, geography
  • Have a keen interest in communications and employee engagement.
  • Have a keen interest in online and social media trends, digital platforms and developments.
  • Previous experience of working at a communications agency or in house would be an advantage.
